Some people have the preconception that acupuncture will feel the same as having a blood test or vaccination or be as painful as those times when you accidentally prick your finger with a sewing needle. As you can see from my photo above, acupuncture needles are actually tiny in comparison, being similar in size to a human hair or cat's whisker.

In my treatment sessions I work with my patients to use breathing techniques to reduce their anxiety on needle insertion, which makes a big difference as your focus is distracted.

You can also rest assured that the acupuncture needles are single use, sterile and on removal are disposed of in a sharps container.

Once the needles are in place, I leave them in situ for around 20 minutes with the option of listening to some background chill out music and offer of a gentle facial massage. You will probably like the majority of my patients find the experience very relaxing. Some have even been known to fall asleep - which I call an acunap!

If I still can't convince you, then maybe I can sway you to try Tui Na massage instead. Tui Na which means to 'grasp and push', is an ancient form of massage uses the same principles as acupuncture in terms of channel theory but uses hands and fingers instead of needles and it's done through clothing.
